The study to know the wishes of pregnant women
BK initially conducted a survey of 1,070 pregnant women in Germany aged between 16 and 45. As a result, they observed that 58% of the participants had strange desires. In addition, 76% of them said it was practically impossible to resist when the desire to eat certain foods appears.
The study also indicated that cravings tend to occur in the second trimester of pregnancy and especially at night. Furthermore, about 7% of the participants reported that the cravings persisted even after giving birth.
According to Klaus Schmäing, BK's marketing director in Germany, the research carried out indicates that pregnant women's wishes are not myths, but are real wishes and happen to the majority from them. From that, the company launched The Pregnancy Whopper, which has nine flavors available.
unusual combinations
The flavors were based on the suggestions of pregnant women and combine ingredients such as cucumber and jelly, curry sausage and fried herring, fish skewers with apple sauce, pickles with whipped cream, french fries with strawberry ice cream, vanilla ice cream with olives, and also banana with eggs.
The campaign
The advertising agency Grabarz & Partner produced the campaign for the Whoppers line in a very light and humorous tone to attract the clientele, with pregnant women talking to their children and partners about their desire for different food combinations than conventional.
Limited edition
The novelties were only available on Mother's Day, which was celebrated on the 8th of May, in some of the Burger King restaurants in Berlin. However, depending on the success of the combinations, the hamburgers will be part of the brand's catalog permanently, after all, "there's a taste for everything", right?
