aging

First of all, everyone wants to find the “elixir of youth”, to delay aging as much as possible. However, this process is something intrinsic and happens due to interactions with the environment, such as sunlight, toxins in the air and water and the type of food consumed. Such interactions cause several changes in the structure and function of the molecules and cells of the organism.

Consequently, these changes trigger the aging process, but the primary cause of this mechanism is still unknown to scientists. Some of these have to do with how the body accumulates genetic damage in the form of DNA damage. Thus, mitochondria are vulnerable to any type of damage. But, a healthy diet can delay this aging.

Foods that slow down aging

To delay aging, foods that have antioxidants and a red color are key. An example is the tomato, which has a vegetable color soluble in fat that gives it its red hue, known as lycopene.

This substance releases electrons into the blood that are captured by free radicals, which prevents damage to molecules and cell membranes. Furthermore, lycopene is rich in vitamin C, capable of delaying aging.

Another important food to avoid unwanted wrinkles is fish, as it is rich in omega 3. Fish such as anchovies, tuna, salmon and mackerel also contain vitamins K, C and E, which are essential in skin care.
