$500,000 in damage after criminals looted Apple store
The incident took place in a mall in Seattle, in the United States, in the city of Lynnwood. According to a report by local authorities, the criminals acted on the night of a Sunday, a quiet time, when most stores are already closing.
To get to the Apple store, criminals used the bathroom of a coffee shop that was on the floor above. There, they dug a hole that gave access to the store below, where the appliances were.
Miscellaneous stolen items
In addition to the 436 stolen cell phones, several other items were taken by the bandits. iPads, AppleWatch, MacBook, among other items from the apple company were stolen from the store, adding up to a loss that could reach more than 2 million reais.
Security system failed?
The store manager reported that the store's alarm did not go off during the invasion, which facilitated the bandits' action. Despite the hole in the ceiling, the security system was not activated, allowing thieves to practically empty the store's stock of products.
Some coffee shop employees released photos showing the hole made by thieves in the establishment's bathroom to access the Apple store. They managed to open this passage without making any big noise and with simple materials, according to a police report.
Still, the authority emphasizes the need to assess the quality of the structure of the mall's bathrooms, to prevent similar episodes from happening again.
