This occurs when the dog ingests a flea that is infected with worm larvae and thus these parasites settle in the animal's intestine. This parasitosis is very dangerous, as dogs often do not express symptoms. With this, the worm, which can reach up to 60 cm, begins to develop. Therefore, be aware of the appearance of worms in your pet's feces, observe if he is rubbing his bottom a lot on the floor and if he is vomiting or losing weight. These are some of the signs of this parasitosis that often go unnoticed. But be careful, watch out and prevent this from happening.
How to prevent and treat?
Prevention is always better than having to treat. Therefore, use flea prevention products frequently, such as flea collars or spot-on products that are usually applied to the animal's neck. Also, when walking or taking your dog to the park, always keep an eye on him, preventing him from coming into contact with any place or animal that he shouldn't. In addition to this, there are parasite preventions that can be taken monthly and help to avoid tapeworm.
However, if it is not possible to prevent it, there is also treatment. In this case, one option is the drug praziquantel, taken in two doses two weeks apart. This medication is available both orally and as an injection, and the dose will depend on the weight of the dog. In addition, certain worm preventions also contain praziquantel and other drugs that interrupt the life cycle of tapeworms, as well as other worms.
