Some companies that manufacture pet food and snacks have been alerted to toxic batches that are causing health problems in animals. These companies – such as FVO Alimentos Ltda, Peppy Pet and Upper Dog Ltda – must withdraw immediately the lots of products, mainly the snacks produced for dogs, throughout the National territory. The order was issued by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply.

The decision was taken shortly after an investigation was carried out, as it was found the adulterated use of propylene glycol in the manufacture of products.
After investigating and analyzing samples of dog food products, the Federal Agricultural Defense Laboratories (LFDA) obtained results showing that a toxic substance called monoethylene glycol was located where there should be propylene glycol, something that is normally used.
Every time a producer decides to use monoethylene glycol, he must register with the Ministry of Agriculture when the producer is sold. Which didn't happen. Now the government's job is to trace the manufacturer that supplied this raw material; however, to date, he has yet to be identified.
An alert was issued for those who manufactured, purchased or imported this substance until December of last year so that they can manifest themselves and inform in which batches it was used and how much was used. A period of ten days was also estimated to deliver this information to the nearest Animal Products Inspection Service.
Those who do not comply with this order may be subject to inspection regarding the veracity of the information provided.
This investigation began to be carried out, as an alert was issued about the death of 54 dogs that had health problems and complications after ingesting contaminated snacks from Bassar Pet companies Food.
The Ministry of Agriculture believes that this input would have come from an unregistered company, but there is still no information on its origin. “To date, investigations have not yet determined the origin of the additive used, due to the lack of traceability of the involved and the mixture of batches of additives in the different establishments already identified without registration with the Ministry", reported.
