People died because of their own inventions

It is important to highlight that most of the experiments that we are going to mention were in the elaboration phase when they resulted in the death of these scientists. Many of these creations underwent improvement after the death of these individuals and are already common in our midst. Here are some examples of the tragic beginnings of certain items.

Marie Curie

She was one of the most important scientists of all time, as she pioneered studies on radioactivity. Curie was responsible for developing a radiology machine that gave birth to our well-known x-ray. Because of overexposure to radiation, she developed aplastic anemia and died.

Thomas Midgley Jr.

Midgley was a controversial inventor. He created lead from gasoline; an invention that is quite harmful to human health and the environment. He was killed by an invention that would be responsible for making him get out of bed, as the engineer contracted polio. Unfortunately he was asphyxiated by cables of his own creation.

Valerian Abakovsky

Another inventor who died because of something he created was Soviet engineer Valerian Abakovsky. In this case, he was responsible for the development of the Aerowagon, a type of rail vehicle that reached high speeds. He died in an accident in his own machine along with other passengers.

Franz Reichelt

Finally, we have the Australian inventor who created men's clothing in France. In the 1990s, Reichelt created a kind of parachute that would help him achieve flight. For the demonstration of his project, the man invited the entire Paris press to watch him jump from the Eiffel Tower, but the “flying tailor” – as he was known – died during the test.
