Bizarre! Man finds 'carnivorous' larvae in his ear

Accustomed only to the wax present in the ears, human beings never expect to find anything beyond them there. However, something unexpected happened to a man who went to the doctor thinking it was just a simple itch in his ear. Check out the curious case where carnivorous larvae were present in his ears.

A 64-year-old man, bothered by the itching in his ear, decided to check into a hospital in Portugal. In addition to the itch, he complained of pain and it was also possible to visualize bleeding in the region. After performing the tests, it was found that the reason for all the discomfort was the presence of larvae that had damaged part of the patient's eardrum.

The larvae even occupied the boy's ear due to the deposit of eggs from flies from the species Cochliomyia hominivorax. The practice of depositing eggs in other organisms is very common in these species, unfortunately man has suffered from the cycle of nature.

Symptoms

The patient reported that he felt pain and itching for about 5 days, after which he went to the doctor and was hospitalized.

Sequelae

So far, doctors have not reported whether sequels can be left after this unpleasant surprise. The larvae were completely removed from the body of the man.

Incidence

Doctors classified the case as rare, so don't get too desperate. It won't happen overnight, but be on the lookout if you find a fly of the Cochliomyia hominivorax species laying eggs around.
