See how Petrobras' profit turned out and its implications
According to a survey carried out recently, if you divide the amount of Petrobras' profit value by month, you can see that the company earned more than R$ 15 billion between January and March. This amount could pay about R$ 250 of gasoline per vehicle in Brazil.
According to data from the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), the country had 59,242,869 vehicles of this type in 2021. Meanwhile, the national average price of gasoline, determined by the ANP (National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels), rose to R$ 7.29 in the week of May 1st to 6th.
Or, to put it another way, Petrobras' profit would be enough to fill the tank of all passenger cars in Brazil, which would be around 34 liters. When considering that the newest car on the market is the Renault Kwid, which has a fuel capacity of 38 liters, a driver with this model could almost fill the tank for BRL 250.
Petrobras profit
Petrobras' profit represents a return on investment of more than 3,000%. The comparison is with the same period of 2021, when the gain was R$ 1.3 billion. According to data released by the state, around 80% of profits came from exploration and production (E&P) activities, with the remaining 20% coming from other segments such as refining.
The influence of the rise in the dollar could also be observed in the first three months of the year, in addition to the increase in oil prices since the beginning of 2022. During a live broadcast, President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) criticized Petrobras' profit. He was keen to emphasize that the company must reduce the profit margin for shareholders.
