Don't make these compliments
Some people just try to disguise their comments mean through a more “nice” outfit. However, these lines can arouse real problems of self esteem in some people, as it puts them in the uncomfortable position of having to explain their lives. Here are some examples of these offending compliments:
‘You look beautiful after you lost weight!’
Nothing worse than having thinness praised, as it makes it clear that “overweight” people are frowned upon. In addition, it is worth remembering that people do not always lose weight for aesthetics, because, for example, weight loss can be the result of a disease.
'I can't believe you're single, it's so beautiful!'
A person's love life will always be an uncomfortable topic of conversation, especially when someone is not in a relationship. Therefore, avoid bringing up the subject and know that there are many reasons, in addition to the aesthetic issue, that influence whether a person is single or not.
'You don't even look like you're gay (lesbian)!'
In this case, you need to understand that “not looking gay” or “looking straight” is by no means a compliment! So, understand that people can exercise their sexuality in different ways and that none of them diminishes or increases your credibility.
‘I wish I had more free time like you’
Here we have a comment that in no way can sound like a compliment or a positive comment. This is because it creates the feeling that you play a more important role than other people because of your lack of time.
'You're not even that black'
Similar to the case of sexuality, it is worth remembering that having lighter skin is by no means a compliment, but just a phenotypic trait. Furthermore, no one deserves to have their race challenged by mean comments like that.
