Japanese school rules
Education in Japan is very famous for its excellence, but it is quite different compared to the rules we find in our country. That's because the Japanese value many other behaviors. Check it out below!
- Punctuality
Punctuality is a very important feature in the country, including in schools. Classes start at 8:30 am and students need to be there before that time, and can only be late in urgent situations.
- short vacation
The Japanese summer school holidays only last for 5-6 weeks. In addition, even during the vacation period, on some occasions, attendance at school is mandatory to take extracurricular classes.
- Quality of school meals
The school children's lunch is well balanced, with soup, rice, fish and fruit. In addition, the meal is eaten collectively and food waste is not accepted.
- Students and teachers keep the school clean
Unlike what happens here in Brazil or in other countries, schools in Japan do not have janitors. This is because those responsible for the hygiene of the place are the teachers and the students themselves.
- Cell phone use prohibited at school
Students cannot use cell phones inside schools so as not to jeopardize their learning. If they need to use the phone, they must go to the parking lot or in front of the school after classes end or break.
- class on saturdays
Some schools also offer classes on Saturdays and students only have Sunday for rest. In addition, the school workload is high and high school students cannot work part-time, only if the school authorizes it.
- Children go to school alone
Encouraging children's independence is a very important point in Japan. So they start going to school in groups, but with adult supervision to help them through dangerous crossings.
- Prohibited the use of accessories
In Japanese schools, you cannot wear any type of accessory, be it rings, earrings, necklaces or watches. The only item allowed is the hair elastic, which must be black, brown or navy blue.
- respect for teachers
Greetings are customs in Japanese culture and greeting the teacher in the classroom is fundamental. Thus, when the teacher enters the room and when the class ends, all students bow before the teacher.
- Clubs and extracurricular classes
Finally, all students must participate in at least one extracurricular activity within the school. Classes are related to arts, cooking, culture, literature or sports.
