Cholesterol: LDL and HDL

Bad cholesterol, as LDL is known, is essential for the circulation of fat throughout the body. However, it can be very dangerous when its level is high, as it can accumulate fat in the walls of blood vessels. In addition, heart arteries may rupture, creating a risk of heart attack.

HDL cholesterol, which is considered good, does the opposite function of LDL, removing excess cholesterol from the bloodstream and sending it to the liver (sparing the arteries of the heart and brain).
