Have you ever stopped to think about what to expect when you make a act of solidarity? Usually, a simple “thank you” is expected in return. However, there are cases that show how help may not have the expected recognition.
These stories show us that even good people can be deceived. Now, let's look at two situations in which individuals donated a kidney and did not receive the gratitude or expected return.

Generous employee harmed after donating kidney to boss
A case that gained prominence on the internet caused outrage to many people. An employee decided to donate her own kidney to her employer. The story took place in the United States and involved Debbie Stevens, 47 years old, and her boss Jackie Brucia, 67 years old.
This story could be a moment of reflection, but unfortunately it had a tragic outcome. Donating a kidney is a grandiose act and can lead to complications for the donor.
Debbie underwent surgery to remove her kidney, which was not an easy procedure. However, after the donation, the boss did not thank her and even harmed the employee at work.
After surgery, doctors discovered that the donated kidney was not a match for Jackie's body. Despite the disappointment, the kidney was sent to a man in Missouri (USA), while the boss received an organ from an unknown donor.
This would have been a perfect time to praise Debbie for her love and kindness, but the employee received a call demanding that she return to work. She was still recovering from the surgery, as was her employer, and Jackie's lack of consideration was not well received.
What an unpleasant situation, isn't it? The act itself was a great help, even though the organ was not useful for the mistress.
However, this is not an isolated outlier involving an act of kindness. Let's now look at another case in which the retribution was not exactly a "thank you".
Kidney donation reveals a secret: the mistress
Maria José Lara, a Mexican, got a surprise after donating a kidney to her boyfriend. A few hours after the surgery, she found out that her partner was married. This young woman's account was published by Marie Claire magazine.
Maria José met Mathias (code name created for the report) in 2016, through Facebook. Despite living in different cities in Mexico, they managed to build a relationship and saw each other frequently.
The courtship lasted about a year and Maria José even had plans to get married. She had already met her partner's family and believed that there were no secrets between them.
However, at a certain point, Mathias fell ill and was diagnosed with kidney failure. He urgently needed a transplant.
Maria José did not hesitate to offer herself as a kidney donor, if hers was compatible. Even with opposition from her family, she was determined.
After tests that proved compatibility, Maria José went to her boyfriend's city and had the surgery. However, shortly after the procedure, she was surprised by a woman who claimed to be Mathias' wife.
The woman entered Maria José's room very happy and thanking her for having saved her husband's life.
Totally surprised and confused by the revelation, Maria José could hardly believe what was happening. Mathias' family quickly intervened, claiming the woman was mistaken and removing her from the room.
Maria José returned to the city, but noticed that her relationship with Mathias began to grow apart. He wasn't as affectionate as before and seemed to avoid any contact with her. It was then that she decided to return to the hospital where Mathias was admitted.
ending of the story
Upon arriving there, Maria José came across the woman who claimed to be her boyfriend's wife. It was then that she introduced herself as the girlfriend and questioned the situation.
Mathias, pale and in shock, didn't know what to say. Faced with this revelation, Maria José did not cause a scandal, but rather, in a polite way, she decided to get out of the uncomfortable situation.
After this episode, Maria José claims that she never had contact with her ex-boyfriend again. Still, she doesn't regret making the donation and saving the life of the person she believed was her faithful partner.
She keeps her conscience clear, because the donation was a personal decision, and nobody forced her to do it. Even with all the difficulties faced, Maria José appreciates the fact of having saved a life and follows her journey with health and peace of mind.
What can be concluded from these cases?
These two stories show us that solidarity is not always reciprocated in the way we expect. However, they also emphasize the importance of not failing to help others for fear of possible disappointments.
The act of solidarity itself already carries with it an intrinsic value, regardless of the circumstances. And, at the end of the day, the most important thing is to know that we did good and contributed to making the world a better place.
