The whole world has followed the case of Elon Musk with Twitter. On September 13th, this story gained a new chapter. The social network's former security chief, Peiter Zatko, who is now the spokesman for the allegations made to Twitter, said in the middle of the United States Congress that the network social does not have cybernetic defenses adequate to the risk and that leaves the data of its users vulnerable, putting at risk the very privacy of those who use the platform.

Twitter's former security chief is well respected in the cybersecurity arena. On that occasion, he appeared before the Senate Judiciary Committee to give some statements. "I'm here today because the management of Twitter is misleading the public, congressmen, regulators and even its own board of directors", he said.
“They don't know what data they have, where it lives and where it came from, and so, unsurprisingly, they can't protect it. It doesn't matter who has the keys if there are no locks.”, he completed. Peiter Zatko also said that Twitter's leadership body ignored engineers in certain matters because his executive incentives eventually led them to prioritize profit over security.
Peiter Zatko was Twitter's chief security officer until he was fired in early 2022. In July of this year, he filed his first complaint with the US Congress, the Department of Justice, the Federal Trade Commission and also the Securities and Exchange Commission.
Among all that was said by him, what left the most people curious was the statement that Twitter violated the terms of an agreement with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) in the year 2011 where he unrealistically claimed that he would be taking some stronger measures to try to protect the security and also the privacy of his users. He also said that some basic systemic flaws were presented by some company engineers that were not addressed.
The FTC has been eyeing policing the kind of privacy violations that ended up happening with Twitter. Peiter Zatko's allegations could also end up helping Tesla CEO Elon Musk get out of his billionaire contract with the social networking company.
Twitter said Peiter Zatko's description is "a false narrative... riddled with inconsistencies and inaccuracies" and lacking important context. Elon Musk is trying to include some new evidence that bears on the expert's allegations in the upcoming Oct. 17 trial.
