Duangphet Phromthep, aged 17, was in England, working at the football academy located in Leicestershire. Last Sunday, the boy was immediately taken to the hospital after feeling sick, as police told the local CNN. The reason for death has not yet been confirmed and they did not give more details, they just said that the teenager died due to an accident.

The Zico Foundation was an organization that took the teenager to study in the United Kingdom after the cave accident, earning the boy a football scholarship. Through Facebook, the Foundation mourned and announced the death:

“The Zico Foundation would like to express our sadness at the passing of Bishop Duangpet Phromthep, a scholarship student at the Zico Foundation,” it posted along with a photo of Phromthep.

Rescue in 2018

The rescue involved the movement of people from all over the world to save the lives of 12 boys along with their trainer. In Chiang Rai province, in northern Thailand, a tight network of caves began to flood as the group passed through them.

The accident caused them to remain trapped at the scene for more than 10 days. An unforgettable event, of great agony, caused laughter with joy when announcing the rescue of 13 people.

With the recent announcement of Phromthep's death, one of the colleagues who were trapped in the cave posted a tribute on Facebook:

“We went through a lot together, good times and bad. We had been through life and death situations together, when you told me to wait and see the moment when you became a national player. I always believed you could. The last time we met, before you left for the UK, I jokingly said that when you got back I would ask for your signature. Rest in peace bro, we will always have each other, the 13 of us.”
