Among wrong investments, mismanagement, excessive spending on ostentation, as well as other things like that are some of the reasons that lead these entrepreneurs to bankruptcy.

Check out some of these stories:

  • Eike Fuhrken Batista da Silva I

Firstly, we have a name that is very well known by Brazilians. Eike Batista was considered for some time the richest man in Brazil.

His fortune was valued at $10.1 billion in 2012. Much of it due to its conglomeration of companies.

Eike, who made his fortune with a clause to sell part of EBX to the Mubadala Development fund, in Abu Dhabi, lost almost everything.

In 2013, he lost around 200 million USD which represented 99% of his assets in one year. In 2014, he lost $1 billion.

  • Emerson Fittipaldi

For those who are fans of Formula 1, this name is really known. Emerson was a Formula 1 and Formula Indy champion driver.

You can imagine he got a good jackpot from there, right? Yes, but however, due to bad investments in farms and communication companies, he lost a lot of money.

In 2016, it was announced that Emerson owed BRL 27 million, and, in 2014, the court ordered the blocking of his bank accounts.

  • Robert Simonsen

A man whose fortune supported large parties and monumental constructions in the state of São Paulo. Robert had a life of luxury.

His money, however, went with him. With Robert's death, suddenly at the age of 59, his company was taken over by his sons.

The heirs, however, did not know how to make the most of what they had. So, in a few years the company, which had already been a lot, reduced its value sharply.

  • Edward Varela I

Finally, we have Eduardo Varela I, an entrepreneur from Rio de Janeiro, known as Dudu da Loteca, who became a millionaire by betting on a football match.

Eduardo earned 11.6 million cruzeiros, which would be around R$18.2 million reais. He became a celebrity automatically.

The lucky one, however, was not so lucky in his investments. Eduardo invested in real estate, but nothing worked out. The bankruptcy of some of his investments was intensified by the divorce.
