This resolution aims to ensure that students in these situations have adequate conditions to complete their university courses, considering the difficulties and challenges they face.
The extension of graduation time will allow these students flexibility and adjustments necessary to reconcile your personal and academic responsibilities, reducing the amount of dropouts.
The Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG) adopted the Special Academic Regime for Permanence (Raep) as a measure to combat dropout among students facing specific challenges by providing them with more time and support to complete their courses.
Although the initiative has been planned since 2018, it has only now been officially regulated through the approval of a resolution by the Board of Teaching, Research and Extension (Cepe) of the university.
Raep aims to offer additional support and inclusion to university students who have children under 4 years of age, who have chronic illnesses or are facing other situations specific.
Students who participate in this special regime will have an increase in the maximum time allowed to complete the course. This increase will correspond to half of the total number of academic terms for which the Raep was granted.
For example, if a student enters the Raep for two semesters, he will have an additional semester to advance in his studies, without running the risk of having his enrollment cancelled.
Another change that will benefit these students is automatic reinstatement by management on the first instance of dismissal due to poor academic performance.
With this new approach, the university seeks to offer support and opportunities for students to overcome academic difficulties and have the chance to continue their studies, promoting equal opportunities and valuing diversity in the environment university.
