In partnership with Murena, the main developer behind the “fork /e/ android“, Fairphone has launched a pilot program in the US for the sale of the Fairphone 4.
As of this week, the phone is selling for $599 and comes pre-charged. with the operating system /e/OS, developed by Murena, instead of the version of Android developed by Fairphone.
Fairphone CEO Eva Gouwens commented on the US launch, stating that the company received many requests from people interested in the Fairphone in the country, but stressed that the main focus is still on the market European.
This collaboration with Murena is an opportunity to test sell devices in the US market and learn more about their demands and preferences.
Differentials
Murena's custom /e/OS is a “desgoogled” version of Android designed to protect users' privacy.
The operating system replaces the services and search engines of the Googleby open source alternatives such as the NTP Pool Project for Network Time Protocol servers and Mozilla's location services.
In addition, the system offers detailed information about the trackers and permissions used by each application, giving users control over their privacy.

The Fairphone 4 is available in green or gray color options, with 128GB or 256GB storage capacities and 6GB or 8GB RAM options.
The higher configuration version retails for US$699 (approximately R$3,403). Customers who purchase the Fairphone 4 by the end of the year will receive a five-year warranty, which will be reduced to three from 2024.
