Differentials

Murena's custom /e/OS is a “desgoogled” version of Android designed to protect users' privacy.

The operating system replaces the services and search engines of the Googleby open source alternatives such as the NTP Pool Project for Network Time Protocol servers and Mozilla's location services.

In addition, the system offers detailed information about the trackers and permissions used by each application, giving users control over their privacy.

Hardware-wise, the Fairphone 4 features impressive specs. It has a 2.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 750G processor, a 6.3-inch screen with a resolution of 2340 x 1080 pixels, a pixel density of 410 PPI and support for 5G connectivity.

The phone also has a 3,905 mAh battery, 42-megapixel rear camera, 25-megapixel front camera, and dual-SIM functionality.

Despite all its modern features, the smartphone's biggest differentiator is that it was designed with modular components, allowing the user to repair the device itself in a simple way.

The internal parts, such as the battery and speakers, are fixed by screws, facilitating access and replacement of these components.

This modular approach promotes a long device lifespan, reducing electronic waste and encouraging sustainability in the smartphone industry.

The Fairphone 4 is available in green or gray color options, with 128GB or 256GB storage capacities and 6GB or 8GB RAM options.

The higher configuration version retails for US$699 (approximately R$3,403). Customers who purchase the Fairphone 4 by the end of the year will receive a five-year warranty, which will be reduced to three from 2024.

With its focus on sustainability and repairability, the Fairphone 4 stands out as a choice for consumers concerned about the durability of electronic devices and protecting their privacy.

The US pilot program will allow Fairphone to assess demand and needs in the western market, potentially expanding its presence globally.
