More than 90 dinosaur nests are found in India

find fossils of dinosaurs it is already something very difficult because it is a cautious and very detailed work. Finding fossils of nests with whole eggs is even rarer. And that's exactly what a group of researchers in India found: a total of 92 nests containing 256 titanosaur eggs, one of the largest that ever existed.

Dinosaur nests are located

In different regions of India, nests with a total of 256 practically intact fossilized eggs have been found. Researchers celebrate the new discovery. Understand why.

Beginning of life

During new excavations in regions with dinosaur fossils, 92 nesting sites containing a total of 256 fossilized titanosaur eggs were located. They are very rare, as eggs are generally more fragile and harder to fossilize. The researchers who were at the site celebrate finding them in almost perfect conditions to carry out the next studies.

Lead author of the research, paleontologist Harsha Dhiman from the University of Delhi, in partnership with other scientists, identified six different species of eggs, thus suggesting a greater diversity of titanosaurs in the world at that time. era. An analysis of the fossils revealed more details about the behavior of these animals, especially the reproductive one.

new eggs

When further studies were done on the new eggs found, a similarity between modern birds and sauropod titanosaurs was identified. These dinosaurs even had a reproductive physiology that allowed their eggs to be laid sequentially.

The presence of many nests close to each other suggests that this dinosaur race had community nesting behaviors, similar to what we see among many birds modern. They migrate to a perfect place to spawn their young and at times similar to those of the same species.

It is very common to see birds that create their nests in places “frequented” by others. In this way, researchers tend to consider that titanosaurs did the same for safety reasons.
