Despite being a project presented in an election year, Congress presents it as a measure to reduce the impact of inflation and the loss of purchasing power of citizens. Thus, the proposal accompanies a series of others that have the same objective, such as the establishment of a limit of 17% for the ICMS for reducing fuel prices.

Conflicts between parliamentarians

Due to the advance of the 13th salary in April and May of this year, retirees and pensioners will not have the benefit in December. Thus, those who receive sick pay, accident pay, retirement and pension for death, upon receiving the 14th salary, will be able to move the economy again during this period.

This issue was discussed at a meeting between government leaders last Tuesday (14th) and involved representatives of the ministries of Labor and Social Security, Economy and the Chief of Staff. During this meeting, due to the impact on public accounts (R$ 81 billion in the two years), experts from the economic area were strongly against the project.

Even so, according to the president of the Constitution, Justice and Citizenship Commission (CCJ), Arthur Maia (UB-BA), the proposal will be discussed later this week. He also informed that as this is a project that has already been approved by two committees, it is not up to him to hold it.

benefit amount

Until then, payments of the 14th salary would be limited to beneficiaries who receive up to two minimum wages (R$ 2,424). Because of this, deputy Ricardo Silva (PSD-SP) defends a ceiling of only one minimum wage (R$ 1,212).
