'Am I exaggerating?': Daycare worker's unusual request leaves mother alarmed

A nursery worker ended up getting very close to one of the children who cared for him and made a rather strange request to the boy's mother: a photo of him to have at her house. The mother was left with no reaction to this request and is now seeking third-party opinions to see if she is being overreacted by not being comfortable.

The boy's mother thinks the woman crossed the line by asking for a photo of her son, so she shared her story on a UK website focused on clarifying maternal doubts: Mumsnet. She reported that her son had been going to daycare for three months, but that his last visit was a week ago.

Before leaving, one of the employees at the site told the parents that she had become attached to the little man and asked the mother if she could keep any souvenirs of him to keep in her home. The mother shared in the publication, which has since been deleted, the following:

“The employee who took care of him told my husband that she wanted to take a picture with my son, on his last day on Friday, to put on home, because she would miss him (…) I think this is crossing the line and that maybe she needs to be reminded that she is there as caregiver.”

Although she believes that daycare workers can become almost family members of the children they care for, she still thinks that the request for the photo was inappropriate: “I understand that nursery workers must form close bonds with the children they care for, but my son he was only there for three months, so she didn't take care of him for that long (…)

Some forum users shared the same feeling as the mother, that the employee really crossed the line, but others considered her attitude quite understandable, mainly because the woman clarified that she was an employee beginner.
