MEC announces the implementation of a new national literacy policy

The new literacy policy of the Ministry of Education (MEC)points to a new way of learning and implementing successful and functional systems in the Brazilian education system.

In addition, the new framework of rules aims to enhance the knowledge of education professionals.

Furthermore, a way is sought to implement the knowledge acquired by professionals in the field in public policies when these are beneficial to the processes.

It was also announced, within the scope of the new literacy policy, the implementation of a “feedback” system for each type of method or tool used.

These processes have aimed to establish better practices that help reduce inequality education in Brazil, creating a path of better preparation and structure to assist in the literacy process of young people.

The implementation of the new literacy process must rely on the help and direct contact between different institutions throughout the Brazilian territory.

The main axes proposed for this new approach are:

• Governance and management of the literacy policy;
• Training of education professionals and improvement of pedagogical practices and school management;
• Improvement and qualification of the physical infrastructure and pedagogical inputs;
• Assessment systems;
• Recognition and sharing of good practices.

The new literacy policies should raise ainvestmentof R$ 3 billion over the next 4 years.

In addition, the main objective is to benefit and prioritize the development of 15.8 million children between 4 and 10 years of age in public schools throughout Brazil.
