The Junior Scientific Initiation Scholarship or Student Merit Scholarship, a program created in December 2021 by Law governing the Brazil Aid, was finally implemented by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI). The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation established the requirements for accreditation of academic and scientific competitions, for elementary and high school students. In addition, it will be possible to filter which of these competitors are benefited by the Auxílio Brasil program.
According to the law, students who won gold, silver or bronze medals, with or without honorable mention, will be able to receive the benefit. Find out the criteria:
How will the R$2,200 be paid?
The contemplated student will receive R$100 monthly for 12 months. However, an installment of R$1,000 will be paid to the winner's family, thus totaling R$2,200.
When will payment start to be made?
Deposits will be made in the year following the expiration of the competition. Therefore, if the student received, for example, the medal in 2022, payments will start in 2023, at least 12 months after the competition. Payment schedules or how they will work have not yet been announced.
How do I know if the competition I will participate in can earn prizes?
According to the Ministry and Ministerial Ordinance 6,410, academic and scientific competitions of national scope, accredited, supported or organized by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation will be participants in the program. The scientific Olympiads, for example, will be taken into account.
Are only students who receive the Auxílio Brasil eligible?
Yes, this merit scholarship is exclusive to students who make up a family that receives the Auxílio Brasil, assistance program for Brazilians living in poverty or extreme poverty.
