Despite the current governor of São Paulo, Rodrigo Garcia (PSDB), having said in July that the state's toll prices would not be readjusted that year, there was an increase from 10.72% to 11.73% on the last day 16. The readjustment is valid for 18 concessionaires, which are responsible for 50 highways in the State.

The concessionaires are: AB Colinas, AB Triângulo do Sol, CART, CCR Autoban, CCR RodoAnel, CCR SPVias, CCR ViaOeste, Ecopistas, Ecovias, Entrevias, Intervias, Renovias, Tietê Highways, Rota das Bandeiras, SPMar, Tamoios, Tebe and Via Rondon.
The state government of São Paulo claims that adjustments for this type of concession are normally scheduled for the month of July. However, this year, the readjustment had to be postponed due to the economic crisis, high prices of essential items – as was the case with increases in fuel prices, for example – and the high inflation.
Here is the note released by the government of São Paulo:
“The State clarifies that the review of tariffs could not be postponed any longer so as not to take assumed costs to the next management by the current government, which has always kept its social and fiscal responsibility intact and is recognized for respecting its contracts. All amounts to be refunded to the concessionaires are already being adjusted by the current management, who worked to guarantee citizens less impact on their pockets at the worst time of the economic crisis national."
It should be remembered that the current governor of São Paulo was defeated in the last elections and will have to step down next year. The governor-elect, Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans), will assume the post from January 1st.
