'Madness', says Martin Cooper on the proportion that cell phones have managed to reach

In an interview with AFP, at the height of his 94 years of age, Martin Cooper talks about his own creation. Cooper is an American engineer and invented the cell phone in 1973. Despite being a long way from what we have in our hands today, it was after the creation of the DynaTAC 8000X that devices technological handhelds evolved.

At the time, Cooper used the classic film star trek for the tech industry to be revolutionized like never before. In 1973, he launched the device that weighed about 1 kilogram, was 25 cm long and 7 cm wide. The battery only lasted 30 minutes, which was already a big milestone for that moment. Today, the technological conditions and forms of uses are different.

As much as it was the work of his own hands, Cooper is dissatisfied with the proportion that the canvases took and issued a warning: look less at the screens!

Martin Cooper talks about his creation

The world is totally digitized, and many of our problems are solved by the screens of a small cell phone. It doesn't weigh as heavily as Cooper's creation did, but it leaves aside merely simple questions. Therefore, the father of the cell phone issues the alert saying that he is devastated when he sees people looking at the device all the time.

“Devastated! The cell phone has now become an extension of the person”, he said that he thinks it is crazy to observe that people cross streets looking at the device. For him, all this usefulness is still incomprehensible, even though he came up with the proposal many years ago.

“I will never, ever understand how to use a cell phone the way my grandchildren and great-grandchildren do,” Cooper said. For him, phones will have a break soon and that this phase of looking only at cell phones will not last long. Research has already shown that excessive consumption of screens can cause depression and long-term damage, which ensures that the device's creator is not mistaken about his bets.
