Investing in Brazil, Shopee is accused of smuggling
With the growth of Shopee's sales in Brazil, the company plans to invest here and make the country one of its business centers. However, the company still does not make a profit in Brazil, on the contrary, it has suffered losses in the payment of interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization. In this sense, Sea, a group from Singapore of which Shopee is part, should have a loss of 3.5 billion dollars in 2022.
Another setback for this company, in addition to the losses, are the problems that are beginning to arise with other competing Brazilian companies. This is because they are pressuring the government to take action against products that come from abroad without paying taxes or are illegal. In this sense, some companies like Shopee, Mercado Livre and AliExpress are being accused of digital smuggling. Nothing has been confirmed yet on this matter, but it is a fact that this could bring greater harm to Shopee.
About Shopee
Shopee is an online sales platform owned by Sea, a group of companies from Singapore. Given this, the company stands out for its low prices and, with that, it stood out in the market and became a major competitor of other platforms, such as Wish and AliExpress. At Shopee, sellers can register and start selling their products.
In this way, it is possible to find the most diverse types of products on the platform, but this also generates fears regarding confidence in buying on the platform. For this, Shopee created the “Shopee Guarantee”, a service in which the purchase price is retained until you report that you have received your product in good condition.
