The phrase already known by many people receives a new reinforcement, now with scientific basis. Recently published in a biology journal, the study conducted by Japanese researchers reveals that dogs have sociocognitive skills very similar to those of human beings.
For this reason, scientists have concluded that animals are genuinely thrilled to find their owners after a long absence. It is a cry filled with joy and with tears derived from the closer ties between the pet and its owner.
The research is based on analysis of the behavior of 22 dogs and their reactions when they are reunited with their human companions and other people also known to them, but who are not their owners.
To reach this conclusion, the researchers made use of paper strips that were placed under the eyes of the animals. In two moments, they analyzed the roles: before the animals were separated from their tutors and after a separation of approximately seven hours.
The discovery was impressive.
Only when they saw their owners again did the dogs cry and shed tears. When they met other people they knew, there was no tear production in the same proportion.
Dog crying can make owner more loving
Dogs' tears are related to their emotions. When an animal cries, it can stimulate its owner's more affectionate and loving behavior more intensely than just wagging its tail or offering licks as a treat. According to scientists, tutors feel more desire to take care of pets when their eyes are full of tears. In this way, the animal's cry represents a deepening of the relationship between the owner and the animal, and therefore can contribute to a greater union between the different species.
