However, there are some cases where the owner earns the right to get rid of this tax. Every year the rule undergoes changes and new vehicles are added to the list of those who do not need to pay, the same happened with IPVA 2023.
It is important to highlight that the IPVA is a charge made by the state, and each one has different rules to apply the exemption.

Cars for People with Disabilities (PcD)
Vehicles intended for these people do not need to pay IPVA in 2023, at least that is what happens in most states. However, there are specific requirements, as in the case of São Paulo, which exempts the payment as long as the amount is less than R$ 100,000. In this state, owners pay 4% of the vehicle's value in tax every year.
Hybrid and electric car
As a way to encourage this type of vehicle powered by clean energy, many states exempt drivers from paying the IPVA 2023.In the Federal District, for example, the exemption is 100% for any model with this characteristic. There are even situations in which the purchase of a car electricgenerates bonus at the time of sale. However, there is no cheaper model than R$ 147,000 in Brazil.
Older cars do not pay IPVA 2023
There are states that exempt the payment of cars manufactured 10 years ago, 15 years ago, 18 years ago, 30 years ago and 20 years ago. You need to check the rule applied in your federative unit. In the case of São Paulo, the rule applies to vehicles older than 20 years. In Tocantins and Santa Catarina, the time has increased and includes vehicles over 30.
