In favor of salary readjustment and career restructuring, civil servants of the central bank held a protest this week, in front of the institution's headquarters, in Brasília. Approximately 300 people were present at the site, according to information from the National Union of Central Bank Employees (SINAL).

The protest took place on July 4th, as it was the deadline set for the federal government to carry out the granting of salary readjustments to public servants due to the deadline imposed by the Fiscal Responsibility Law, which prohibits the increase in personnel expenses in the last 180 days of mandate. However, President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) had already ruled out the salary adjustment for civil servants this year.
Thus, BC servers decided to sit idly by until last Monday, the 4th. The following day, during a deliberative assembly, the strike was ended. However, starting next semester, a new phase of mobilizations should begin, according to SINAL's president, Fábio Faiad, who declined to give further details on how this could happen.
Central Bank employees had been on strike continuously since May 3, shortly after a stoppage of more or less two weeks, which began on April 1, 2022.
This stoppage disturbed the publication of several economic indicators, such as the Focus Bulletin, which brings financial market projections for inflation, GDP (Gross Domestic Product), among others information. With the resumption of work, these data will be updated again and should be published soon.
