The enemy characteristics of wage appreciation
There's nowhere to run, after all, the human tendency is always to value appearance. If there is something that is not visually pleasing, it will simply be discarded, and it will become obsolete, frowned upon. Unfortunately, some human traits suffer from prying eyes. People who are a little overweight, a height less or of a specific gender suffer a lot from the judgment of others.
A study carried out in the United Kingdom indicates that overweight women and shorter men are more likely to have a lower salary. That is, appearance is a determining factor in a person's career.
The analysis of nearly 120,000 participants who had genetic variations related to low height and overweight (men and women), with ages ranging from 37 to 73 years, brought the following conclusions:
For men
For every 6.5 cm more height, US$ 1,611.00 (more than 8 thousand reais) per year were added, in addition to a 12% chance of obtaining more valued jobs.
For women
The gain of 2 kg in your body represents an average of less than 4,200 dollars (R$ 22,234.01) annually.
The result of the study
With the data obtained, it was concluded that height and body mass index (BMI) interfere directly in the socioeconomic aspect of people. Thus, it was possible to observe that groups with ideal characteristics, such as tall men, have full advantage over disadvantaged ones, such as overweight women.
What is between the lines is that being taller and improving BMI can help to improve an individual's socioeconomic status due to the prejudice that exists with the groups presented.
However, letting the traits assigned to you at birth cause you to become discouraged is not an option. You are what makes your professional self, and your success is built by your actions. The more you try, the more seen you will be and your appearance will become a mere detail.
