M for… Very chic!

One of the explanations for the letter M on the forehead of kittens is that this would be a mark that comes from far, far away. It is believed to be a genetic "burr" of Abyssinian cats.

This is a breed whose origin is still quite mysterious – like many things involving felines, isn't it? It is more likely that these kittens were natural from Ancient Egypt or Ethiopia.

M de… Mohammed and his cat Muezza!

One of the explanations comes from the

Islam. As the story goes, Mohammed had a cat called Muezza. He was once attacked by a snake, but the cat saved him before the reptile could do anything.

So the cat got an M on its forehead. The mark was to remember that Muhammad loved cats and that they are worthy of respect.

M for… Manger!

One of the most famous stories surrounding the M on cats' foreheads involves the Christmas and the birth of Jesus.

Legend has it that a cat offered help to Mary to warm the baby Jesus in the manger. With the good deed, the mother of Christ rewarded the kitty, marking the initial of her name on the animal's forehead.

Yeah, but what's the real explanation of the letter M on cats' foreheads?

Of course, some scientists have already stepped forward to explain some things about the M on feline foreheads. One of the official reasons is just the cat fur color and another is genetics.

The idea most accepted by researchers is that the sign is made to distinguish certain races. However, with the mixed crossings and the various lineages, the marquinha became a common genetic factor in several pets.

But let's face it, the other explanations are much more interesting, aren't they?
