FBI Director Says If Pandemic Started in Wuhan Lab

Christopher Wray is a attorney American and also the eighth director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). He was nominated for office by President Donald Trump in June 2017 and was confirmed by the Senate in August of the same year. Last Tuesday, the 2nd, the director stated that the agency believes that the Covid-19 pandemic was “probably” caused by an incident in a laboratory in Wuhan, China.

In an interview with the Fox News channel, Wray said that the FBI has, for some time, assessed that the origins of the pandemic were most likely a potential laboratory incident in Wuhan.

A report released by the US Department of Energy recently said that a leak in a Chinese laboratory is the most likely cause of the Covid-19 outbreak. Despite this, other intelligence agencies in the country believe that the virus emerged naturally in the world.

Still in the interview, the director of the FBI accused the Chinese government of trying to impede American efforts to investigate the causes of the pandemic.

"The Chinese government has done its best to try to impede and overshadow the work here, the work that we're doing, the work that our government and allies are doing," Wray said.

The Chinese deny the allegations.

Chinese officials deny this and have called the whole thing a smear campaign against Beijing. Despite this, the scientific community considers it crucial to determine the origins of the pandemic in order to combat and prevent the next one.

The World Health Organization (WHO) sent a team of experts to China in January 2021 to investigate the origins of virus. Their report published in March 2021 concluded that a laboratory leak was "extremely unlikely", however the content was criticized by some.

They stated that the survey was incomplete and not very transparent. That is why there are ongoing investigations and discussions about the origin of the virus. Overall, it is important to continue gathering and evaluating evidence.
