As much as this seems a bit bizarre, the fact is that there are still citizens performing jobs similar to slavery in the 21st century, in the year 2022. This request was made by the Uruguaiana unit of the Public Ministry of Labor of Rio Grande do Sul (MPT-RS), through a preliminary injunction filed by attorney Hermano Martins Domingues.
Thus, the purpose of the measure is to make unavailable the assets of three defendants responsible for the movement of economic activities related to the aforementioned farm, responsible for producing rice.
The decision also aims to guarantee resources for the payment of compensation amounts for moral damages to four workers who were kept in conditions labor analogous to slavery on the property where they were rescued, during a routine inspection operation that took place on February 3.
After the rescue, the farm owners were instructed to pay the severance pay to the employees as a minimum requirement to formalize an agreement via the Conduct Adjustment Term (TAC).
However, those responsible did not settle the accounts and did not formalize any service contract. Thus, the MPT-RS requested in a precautionary action the blocking of all furniture, real estate, vehicles and assets deposited in financial institutions by the owners.
