What is the origin of the word?
The word originates from a joke that a Boston newspaper created in 1839. The expression “OK”, used to say that everything is fine, spread to the point of being recognized today in any part of the planet.
Another version of the story says that the “okay” came about as abbreviation from the English expression “oll korrect”, a different way of writing “all correct”. In the nautical universe, the expression was used to say that there was nothing wrong with the vessel.
The sailor who was in charge of inspecting the ship, if he did not find any irregularities, would say “OK” and the ship would set sail.
However, there is still a third version. It refers to the war period, when American bases were informed by radio about the deaths in combat, and the acronym “OK” was used to say “zero killed”.
