FGTS birthday withdrawal may have days numbered

"We intend to put an end to this", said Luiz Marinho about the modality.

It is believed that this is a measure of disapproval by the fund planning in the previous government. Marinho pointed out the way they used it was “irresponsible and criminal”.

In the words of the new minister: “When citizens need it (the FGTS), they don't have it. As there have been complaints from dismissed workers who go there and have nothing”.

The FGTS can be invested to finance real estate. Marinho was a minister in Lula's first government and projected that the fund could be used to finance projects, generate jobs and finance production.

It is also their proposal to resume the Minimum Wage Enhancement Policy, based on the growth of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP). He pointed out that he intends to make readjustments.

Plans for the first six months

Marinho stated that there is a need to carry out a type of “sliced labor reform” in the first six months of the year and which intends to include companies and workers in the discussion to hear the opinions. He denied that he intends to revoke what was approved in the previous reform.

“What will happen is the gradual construction of a new labor legislation to value collective bargaining and strengthen wages”, he added. He also informed that he intends to strengthen the labor market and strengthen labor legislation so that jobs are generated.

“In part-time, temporary, intermittent hires, everything dances. It doesn't have FGTS, it only has Social Security. What we need is to strengthen the labor market. We are not saying that for all segments of work there will be CLT. You have workers who can be inserted in the solidary economy, based on cooperativism, other instruments, based on individual microentrepreneurs (MEI)”, he concluded.
