According to the South China Morning Post, Su Xiangmao jumped from a tall building and left a suicide note in which he claimed that his “extremely cruel ex-wife, Zhai Xinxin,” was the cause of her decision. The suicide letter was posted by Su's brother on social media.

The couple met through a dating app in Beijing in March 2017, getting married in June and splitting just two months later. The suicide occurred in September of the same year.

Zhai's Reports

Before marrying Su Xiangmao, Zhai Xinxin demanded that he deposit a daily amount of 50,000 yuan (approximately R$ 36,500.00) into his bank account until the marriage. According to the Chaoyang District Court in Beijing, Zhai bought a car, jewelry and received more than 3 million yuan in cash during their brief 110-day relationship.

After an investigation, the court ordered Zhai to return a set of Cartier jewelry worth 320,000 yuan (approximately R$ 233,600.00), a Tesla car worth 1 million yuan (approximately R$730,000.00) and a total of 1.87 million yuan (approximately R$1,366,100.00) in cash payments that she received from Su.

Zhai claimed the items were engagement gifts, but the court did not accept his claims. The WeChat messages revealed that Zhai coerced Su into depositing the sum to win her heart before the wedding. Furthermore, she forced him to sign a divorce agreement that included promises to buy her an apartment and give her 10 million yuan in compensation.

After the court ruled that Zhai's extortion contributed to Su's death, she was ordered to return the 6.6 million yuan to Su's family, as well as giving up ownership of the house in Beijing and the apartment in Sanya.
