A report published recently by The South China Morning Post communicated that researchers in China have developed a specific laser, with high energy, so that the drones don't need to practice landing. That is, the object would stay in the air for as long as it wanted!
The technology is a big news as these high power laser systems are useful for techniques anti-drone. However, Professor Li Xuelong and his teammates at Northestern Polytechnical University (NPU) have developed the technology that will be able to practice as promised.

The guarantee of the drone is that it can be kept in the air forever.
First of all, the researchers needed to track the drone so that it could be located while it was flying. So, they developed a kind of algorithm for tracking and confirmed that it can be useful for different situations in the climate and in the light that can be emitted. The three tests (internal, external and night) were successfully obtained by the team.
Researchers have developed a way to convert light energy into something simply electrical. For example, the laser that reproduces high energy can be directed at the drone to charge the battery even from a distance.
Recently, they performed a test called “optics-guided drones” (ODD) and used light to recharge the drone while it was aloft. In a note, the team shared the experience.
“Research highlights are 24-hour intelligent vision tracking system and long-range autonomous power replenishment for ODD,” they shared last week.
Drone that does not land: what will be the use?
The Chinese team shared the main intention behind which the non-landing drone was thought of:
“In some time-consuming missions, such as searching for tourists trapped in flash floods, the flight continuous drone deployment will save a lot of precious rescue time,” the report reads. “ODD is expected to deeply participate in social governance such as traffic control, security patrols, disaster rescue and contactless logistics.”
