Mayor of Porto Alegre vetoes PL that provides for the end of revolving doors in banks

The mayor of Porto Alegre, Sebastião Melo (MDB), vetoed Bill 477/22, which provided, basically, the end of the use of revolving doors in bank branches located in the capital of Rio Grande southern.

Technically, the PL updates legislation in force since 1994, which talks precisely about the possibility of abolishing the use of revolving doors in POA.

The veto issued by Mayor Sebastião Melo excludes item I of the bill, which established an exception for the mandatory revolving doors in branches and bank posts that have the approval of their Security Plan for the Federal police, as provided for in Federal Law No. 7,102, of June 20, 1983.

As a result, the use of revolving doors will remain mandatory in branches that have safes and money movement, but there is no longer an obligation for electronic service points, for example.

To justify the partial veto, the mayor pointed out that he held a broad debate with representatives of Porto Alegre's bankers and councilors, seeking to contemplate the concerns of both sides of the history.

The purpose of these discussions was to find a balance between the need to modernize bank branches and preserve the safety of workers and users of institutions.

On the other hand, the mayor also expressed the desire to contribute to the creation of a good business environment for digital banks and other institutions that bring innovation to the sector. Now, the partial veto goes to vote in the City Council.

SindBancários celebrates the decision

The mayor's partial veto was seen as an achievement, at least in part, by SindBancários, which mobilized for the rejection of the Bill.

It is worth noting that the new law determines that even at stations where installation of revolving doors is waived, a constant surveillance system is maintained, operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
