Brazilians already use PIX to pay bills
The proposal to make PIX the official and mandatory model for paying electricity bills does not come out of nowhere. In this case, it is an adaptation to the reality that already exists and is already quite common among a large part of the Brazilian population.
This is the main argument of the National Electric Energy Agency, Aneel. According to the Agency, 67% of large and medium-sized energy concessionaires in Brazil already have the option to pay with PIX. In these cases, this type of payment is one of the most common and recurring among consumers.
In addition, it is argued that the PIX brought a lot of convenience for paying bills. After all, it is agile both for those who need to pay and for those who receive payment. Not to mention that there is a great benefit there, which is the absence of taxes on transactions, which makes the measure much more attractive.
Aneel holds popular consultation
However, the National Energy Agency does not intend to reach this decision without first hearing what Brazilians have to say. Therefore, an opinion poll is open, a popular consultation, to find out what consumers, the main affected by the measure, believe in this proposal.
In this case, the consultation opened on September 14, 2022 and will be open until the next October 31. Thus, the decision will be according to the results of the consultation. If the population shows interest in this measure, the concessionaires that supply energy will have 90 days to adapt to the new payment model.
