Rules for Fly Fishing

THE International Game Fish Association (IGFA), created in 1939, is the organization responsible for ratifying world fishing records sports, as well as imposing limits and rules so that these records can be ratified (FLY Online).
In addition, IGFA is also very concerned about the environmental problems that are harming fish populations around the world. the records of fly fishing they are divided into salt water and fresh water, and also have different rules from conventional fishing. These rules are as follows:
EQUIPMENT RULES

  • line and Backing: Any type of line from fly and backing can be used. The resistance of both is not restricted.
  • Leader: The leader must comply with acceptable customs in the fly fishing. He must have a class tippet and optionally a shock tippet. The back of the leader (butt) and the taper must also be present. There is no restriction on the materials, strength or length of the leader's butt and taper.
  • Class tippet: must be made of non-metallic material and tied directly to the hook or to the shock tippet. O class tippet it is the thinnest part of the leader and it is he who will determine in which line resistance the fish was caught. It must be at least 38.10 cm (15 inches) long (only the class tippet itself, apart from the knots). In the case of conical leaders (without nodes or sections of different lines), the last 38.10 cm determines the resistance of the tippet. There is no maximum length limit for the class tippet.
  • Shock tippet: it should be no more than 30.48 cm (12 inches) long and should be between the class tippet it's the fly (fly). It can be made of any material and there is no endurance limit. O shock tippet is measured from the eye of the hook to the line that forms the class tippet, including all nodes in the connection. In the case of using a fly with two hooks (tandem), the measurement of the shock tippet should start at the front hook eye.
  • stick: The rod must conform to acceptable customs in the fly fishing. It cannot measure less than 1.82 meters (6 feet), and the fighting butt, also known as extension butt, it cannot measure more than 15.24 cm (6 inches). There is no limit on the number of sections or material. Any rod that offers a very large advantage to the fisherman will be disqualified.
  • Reel: The reel must be made solely for the fly fishing. There are no restrictions on the catch rate or type of curb, unless they offer a very big advantage to the fisherman. Electric reels are prohibited.
  • fish hooks: A fly can be attached to a single or double hook, or two single hooks in tandem mode. The second hook of the tandem model must not exceed the length of the material used to form the fly, that is, it must not be behind the fly. Also in the tandem model, the eye of the two hooks must be no more than 15.24 cm (6 inches) from each other. Galleries are prohibited.
  • Fly: O fly must conform to acceptable customs in the fly fishing and must belong to one of the following categories: streamer, bucktail, tube fly, wet, dry fly, nymph, popper and bug. The use of any other type of bait, whether natural or artificial, is expressly prohibited. only a single fly is allowed, therefore, flies dropper types are prohibited. The fact that a bait can be cast with fly does not mean that it is a valid bait for fly fishing. Any bait that is designed to hook or hook fish without the intention of the fish is expressly prohibited. No type of essence, whether natural or artificial, can be used on a fly.
  • Bicheiros and Puddles: Bins and puddles used to board fish must not exceed 2.44 m (8 ft) in length, except when fishing at a high location away from the water. Only in this case, the use of a larger bin or puddle is allowed. The use of a detachable file (flying gaff) it's forbidden. Only one hook or hook is allowed per bookie. Harpoons and spears are prohibited. The bookie cannot be tied to a rope.

FISHING RULES
1 - The fisherman must throw, hook and fight with the fish without anyone's help. No other person may touch any part of the equipment during the fight with the fish, except when boarding it. At this point, someone can help the fisherman by holding the leader to board the fish with a hook, hook or otherwise.
2 - The throw and the collection/work of the fly must be done in accordance with acceptable customs in the fly fishing. The biggest criterion for the pitch of fly is that the line must lead the bait, instead of the bait leading the line. fix one fly with a boat is not allowed. The boat must be stopped both at the time of launching and during the retraction of the fly. The length of the line between the pole and the fly must not exceed 36.57 m (120 ft) at the time of hooking.
3 - From the moment the fish has been caught, the equipment cannot be modified, unless by adding a extension butt on the stick.
4 - In case a fish attacks the fly and another larger fish attacks and swallows the hooked fish, the catch will be disqualified.
5 - One or more people can help when loading the fish.
6 - The rules defined for fishing and equipment must be obeyed until the time of weighing the fish.
7 - It is forbidden to put the rod in a support while fighting the fish.
8 - It is forbidden to intentionally hook the hook in the fish's body or tie it in any way.
9 - It is forbidden to make barley with meat, skin, blood or any other part of mammalian animals.
10 - It is forbidden to drag the fish with the boat to very shallow places that do not allow it to swim naturally.
11 - It is prohibited to tie the line or leader in any part of the boat or any other object to assist in the fight with the fish.
12 - If the fish escapes before being loaded and soon after being loaded without the hook in the mouth, the catch will be disqualified.
13 - If the rod breaks during the fight at a point that offers a great advantage to the fisherman, the catch will be disqualified.
14 - If the fish is caught in more than one line, the catch will be disqualified.
15 - Mutilations or injuries to the fish caused by other fish, mammals or by the boat's propeller may disqualify the catch, depending on the severity of the injury. Line or leader injuries and wound healing are not considered factors for disqualification from capture. Any injury to the fish must be clearly shown and explained in a note separate from the record application.
The records in the category of fly fishing are divided into the following classes, according to the strength of the class tippet used:

Metric system american system
1 kg 2lb
2 kg 4 lb
3 kg 6 lb
4 kg 8 lb
6 kg 12lb
8 kg 16 lb
10 kg 20 lb

If you catch a fish that you suspect is a record and decide to submit a record application entry to IGFA, you must cut the line of fly 3 cm above the node that connects it to the leader. You should send this little piece of line from fly and all the leader and the fly used in IGFA fish catch. These must be kept intact and the way they were when catching the fish. For more information on how to proceed to file a record application, see the IGFA Brazil website ( http://www.igfa.com.br/) or the American IGFA website ( http://www.igfa.org/).
