Did you already know this denomination for mother?
It may seem new in the name, but the attitude has been known for a long time. The “almond mother” mothering style was ingrained with the diet culture that seeks thinness at the expense of health. According to Dr Parag Dekate, director of the department of pediatrics at KIMS Cuddles, the mother's attention is completely focused on physical appearance, which increases the chances of malnutrition.
Instead of seeking a healthy diet, whenever their children feel hungry, most feed them almonds, thinking it is a good option to supply nutritional needs during development, but actually ends up being a harmful practice that causes negative impacts on the children.
The diet culture
Commonly, for some people, appearance is more important and, to achieve it, they resort to diets without considering the impacts on health. In the midst of this scenario, children will be the most affected, since the reduction in food can cause serious deficiencies of proteins, vitamins and minerals essential for the development of the body. However, children begin to feel ashamed of their own appearance and compare themselves with others.
healthy eating habits
Healthy eating should be a habit for every family, because this is the right way to encourage children to have an adequate diet. Therefore, do not try to force food, just follow the tips below:
- Choose healthy snacks like fruits and low-carb foods;
- Include proteins in meals like eggs and legumes;
- Avoid refined carbohydrates and excess salt;
- Take care of hydration, offer water and natural juices.
