A development plan applied by professor Danilo Dias dos Santos about pounds was put into practice in the interior of Bahia, and has already reached more than 200 regional families.
“If I don't go after improvements for my daughter, I don't think anyone will,” said Kelliane Silva Sá, mother of 5-year-old Isabella Barbosa. The little student, without knowing it, was the inspiration that Danilo needed to develop the project “Libras na Escola Inclusive”.

The objective of this project is to increase the ease of communication for deaf individuals, which during the pandemic suffered severe impacts due to social isolation. According to Danilo, he had the opportunity to have contact with a little deaf girl, and the mother was at a loss for sign language. Therefore, he felt compelled to develop a project.
In addition, the basic teaching of language, carried out virtually, aimed to approach the deaf identity. According to the report provided by the participants, the first contact came from Kalliane, after coming across a lecture given by the pedagogue on her social network. “I'm in the third semester of letters/libras, but I still understand little. Because my daughter is deaf, I looked for a way to have more knowledge, including to pass it on to my family”, he commented.
Project development
The teaching process lasted approximately one month, involving activity scripts, videos, easily accessible children's books, family guidelines and video calls. For Isabella's mother, the path taken by them during this period was wonderful.
After contemplating the evolution of little Isabela, Danilo then decided to take the project forward, to the Imaculada Conceição Child Education Center. In this way, he was able to start a pre-literacy class II, with about 10 non-deaf students. “I took it to the classroom, reformulating it so that (the content) was aligned with the curricular bases”.
But, so that the idea could go even further, the young professor went towards the educational unit, where he had meetings with the managers. He presented his project and got a positive reaction. Therefore, Danilo carried out an initiation with employees and the school team, to help children who were deaf. “We put signs with signs in the bathrooms and hallways. We went to practice. The idea was to understand basic communication signals, such as discomfort and pain, ”he detailed.
After these attitudes, she left for the meeting sector with parents and guardians. The process consisted of 10 virtual meetings with the small test group, the video calls lasted approximately 20 minutes, and, in addition, had 10 home visits. After this journey, Danilo finally managed to put his project into practice in the four pre-literacy rooms I and II of the institution.
“The children were delighted. The great result was the mobilization of the entire school, in the sense of training teachers, replicating it in the other classrooms, infecting the network. Just thinking that in a small, needy, public preschool, we had successful results is very invigorating. We were also able to see greater participation from families, from testimonials from mothers who felt hopeful in the face of the pandemic, ”she concluded.
