Orange can help you with blood sugar control

Much is known about the antioxidant properties of oranges and their high vitamin C content, capable of contributing to the immune system, preventing colds and flu.

What people don't know, however, is that according to a survey recently conducted by University of São Paulo (USP) oranges have bioactives capable of controlling sugar levels in the blood.

The procedures carried out in the research on oranges

Research carried out by the University of São Paulo showed that bioactives, a compound that has an effect on a living organism, is capable of controlling blood sugar levels.

The investigation also had the support of 12 healthy volunteers. In which, each of them ate a meal rich in fat and carbohydrates with 1,034 kcal at night.

Thus, to carry out the research, the volunteers were divided into three groups: those who drank only water accompanying the meal, those who drank juice from another fruit with a high sugar content and those who drank only fruit juice orange.

After finishing breakfast, the volunteers were evaluated from time to time and the results were incredibly curious and satisfactory, revealing the potential of oranges in the face of cases.

The search results

The results showed that those who drank orange juice had a satisfactory result in relation to the other juice, as it did not present a difference in relation to water.

Therefore, the research concluded that the juice did not promote a significant increase in blood glucose in our experimental model, unlike what happened with the other juice.

Another satisfactory result was how the orange behaved in relation to either microRNA 375 or miR-375, which is a biomarker of pancreas cell function. They showed a greater potential for the body to synthesize and secrete insulin after taking the orange juice.

Thus, the fruit showed good results in its relationship with insulin. But it is worth remembering that these results are still at an early stage and need to be tested in people who have diabetes.
