O Facebook, a social network that belongs to Meta, approved some ads within its platform that contained news that were not true, that is, they were fake news. In this sense, it is essential to highlight that these news contained false information about the Brazilian elections, as pointed out by the report by the non-governmental organization Global Witness.

According to the entity, these were not the only false information that Facebook approved to be linked to the platform. Indeed, Global Witness reports that one of Facebook's core rules prohibits "disinformation about dates, places, times and voting methods".
However, even so, the platform stopped barring this news that contained untrue information. Therefore, it is important to make it clear that since the year 2020, it has become mandatory to go through the approval process of the Facebook any content related to politics, due to the great wave of misinformation that occurred in the year 2018 in the elections presidential.
In this way, the entity was able to demonstrate that there are many flaws in Facebook's moderation in relation to the materials that are published, and that these problems go against the very transparency policies that were adopted by the social network. According to the Global Witness report, there are many gaps that must be filled in relation to the Meta's moderation regarding the propagation of fake news in its applications, both on Facebook and on Whatsapp. Therefore, measures must be taken to combat the spread of news that can drastically affect the country's electoral dynamics.
