Last week, the MEC officially communicated the readjustment, leaving R$ 3,845.63 to earn 15% more in value. This measure was not considered by the National Confederation of Municipalities (CNM), representing small and medium-sized municipalities in Brazil. The CNM reported that there is no legal basis to be defined.
The presidents of the associations believe that the city halls will not be able to afford the readjustments foreseen by the Federal Government.
“Both the previous government and the current one, that is, the Bolsonaro and Lula governments, adopted the same criteria and edited an infralegal ordinance. It has no weight of law”, informed Paulo Ziulkoski, president of CNM.
On the same basis, Heleno Araújo, president of the National Confederation of Workers in Education (CNTE), informed the case that city halls may face.
“[The CNM] tries to mislead public opinion when it hides that the floor law says that if the mayor cannot pay the amount of the teacher's salary floor, you can request the Union to complement resources", informed Araújo.

According to the São Paulo City Hall, last year, they carried out a 31.8% readjustment in the remuneration of teachers in the network. What used to be R$ 3,832.37 became R$ 5,050 for all 126,000 civil servants who are working at the City Hall's Municipal Education Department.
Teachers salary in Rio de Janeiro
For teachers working in the city hall of the capital, in 40 hours a week for elementary school, the starting salary is from R$ 6,073.29. Rio did not say whether it will have a salary adjustment this year.
