Study details

To reach this conclusion, a long path of analysis was traced, involving more than 100,000 participants. These people consumed sweeteners daily in amounts of 18 mg and 79.43 mg per day. Among the reasons that led these patients to use the product was precisely the need to control blood glucose.

However, the researchers noticed a greater tendency in those people with higher consumption of the product to obesity and also to breast cancer. According to the results, a person who consumes sweeteners continuously is 13% more likely to develop cancer cells.

However, it was not possible to locate the exact reason for this relationship, so the scientists intend to continue with the studies. Only now, with a greater focus on understanding the effects of sweeteners on the human body.

Should I stop using sweeteners?

While these studies point to a trend toward cancer, the research organizers say it's too early to draw conclusions. Including the fact that sweeteners are the best alternative for those who want to replace sugar safely, especially in the case of diabetes. Furthermore, the scientists reaffirm their commitment to encouraging the use of the product for these people.

It is, therefore, a warning against exaggeration, even more so when considering that many people abuse the product believing that it is harmless. After all, the highest rates of chance of developing cancer were among those who consumed the most. Not to mention that many industrialized products use sweeteners and claim to make them healthier. Therefore, if you are concerned about this fact, just keep the balance in the use of this substitution and be aware of the progress of scientific research.
