In this year, the Junior Olympics reached its second edition, organized by the Institute of Pure and Applied Mathematics (Impa). Public and private schools will be able to apply for students from the 2nd to the 5th year of elementary school, until June 16th, through the portal responsible for the competition.
Together with Impa, the organization of the event has the support of the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (Capes) and the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq), in addition to the Brazilian Mathematical Society (SBM) to be promoted. Second edition of the Junior Olympics
The second edition arrived with great expectations of success, since the first competition was marked by the participation of 2.7 million students from public schools.
Claudio Landim, deputy director of Impa and general coordinator of the Brazilian Mathematical Olympiad, stated that the tests will continue with the ludic proposal so that the children create bonds with the mathematics.
In addition to the creative sequence of the test, the second edition will feature new challenges related to the subject, with the participation of math teachers in the first years of elementary school and also with institutions private.
Landim used as an example the Brazilian Mathematical Olympiad for Public Schools (OBMEP), which has been running since 2017 with the participation of private schools. For the coordinator, this is a way of expanding access to logical reasoning and to the material offered.
Entries must be made directly by federal, state, municipal, private schools or by the Departments of Education. When applying, the person in charge needs to define the participation of Mirim 1 (2nd and 3rd year of elementary school) and Mirim 2 (4th and 5th year of elementary school).
Evaluative steps
Entries are open until June 16, and the tests will consist of two phases. The first phase will be a multiple-choice test, with 15 questions, of qualifying nature, scheduled to take place on August 28th. Only those classified in this stage will be able to participate in the second stage.
The second test will be on November 9, with 15 objective questions. The best classifications will be rewarded with certificates corresponding to bronze, silver or gold medals. Don't waste time and apply!
