Black apples are called “black diamond” and are part of a rare variety of the Huaniu apple family. They have this color thanks to the great exposure to the sun (ultraviolet light) they receive during the day. In addition, the environment also influences its dark color because, during the night, the temperature drops drastically, causing the bark to develop this color.
However, the inner part is white and shiny, like other common apples. These fruits do not have a nutritional value as high as the other varieties, but despite this, they have a more crunchy and very sweet taste. Therefore, the big difference between the fruits of the same species and the “black diamond” is due to its exotic color.
It's the price?
Although “black diamond” apples do not have as many benefits from a nutritional point of view for your health, they are much more expensive than traditional apples. This is because black apples are produced and harvested within a very short, limited time frame and are therefore generally only available for two months of the year.
