Tubal ligation is a permanent contraceptive procedure performed on women who do not, under any circumstances, wish to have a pregnancy. However, to carry it out, in addition to the desire not to get pregnant again, it is also necessary to meet a series of requirements established by law.
However, the 5th of March marks the beginning of the changes that will come into force through Law n. 14,443, or better, by the Family Planning Law. These changes are important, as they change the rules for procedures such as tubal ligation and vasectomy.
With the change, both men and women will be able to request the procedure, even without prior authorization from their partner.
Other important changes regarding tubal ligation
Another important change concerns the fact that, previously, it was mandatory that the woman be at least 25 years old and have two living children in order to be able to request the procedure.
On the other hand, with the new changes, it is possible for people aged 21 and two living children to apply for procedure, leaving room even for those who have two children alive and younger to carry out the surgery.
In addition, it is worth mentioning the change in the face of the possibility of performing the procedure immediately after childbirth, which was previously impossible. However, it should be noted that, for this, the woman must inform at least 60 days before the birth of her desire to undergo the procedure.
For Nilda Gondim (MDB-PB), this last change is extremely valid due to the fact that it saves these women from hospitalized twice, consequently reducing the risks of surgical complications and occupation of hospital beds. hospital.
Change is a win for women
For women, this change is extremely significant. Although the law also covers men, the measure will give women the right to control their own reproductive systems.
