The wonder of the garden: Arruda, the miracle plant

In November 2022, the lead caskets were finally opened and studied. In this way, it was possible to put doubts in the past, as scientists discovered what was inside the funeral boxes.

One of the coffins held the remains of a member of the clergy who would have died of the “disease of kings”. The other coffin raised new questions. The origin of the individual's remains remains a mystery, however they are being studied. So, soon we will have an answer to this mystery.

The first coffin, of the ecclesiastical man, greatly facilitated the research of the scientists, since it bears an identification plate with the name of the man, Antoine de La Porte. One report indicated that he died at the age of 83 on December 24, 1710.

From this, it was very easy to discover that the remains found were those of a canon who, with his money, helped finance the cathedral choir. This justifies his burial at the site, which is reserved only for the rest of the French elite.

In addition, signs of gout, a type of inflammatory arthritis that can be caused by excessive consumption of alcoholic beverages and food, were found in the foot of La Porte. In the case of the second coffin, the only fact we know so far is that the deceased was between 25 and 40 years old at his death and that he had an extremely difficult life.
