Ingrid is 28 years old and lives in the Hills area of Sydney with her husband. During spring cleaning, the couple was surprised to trip over a heavy box while cleaning.

She said that while they were cleaning what was already in the basement of the house, they removed some things: “we decided to keep some clean things under the house”. “He was complaining that a box was in the way so I said he should just move it away but he said it was too heavy,” Ingrid said of her husband's comment. “We both struggled to get it out and opened it. To our surprise, there were about a dozen old wine bottles in there.”

What did the couple do with the wine bottles?

The bottles were all covered in dust, so they had clearly been under the house for a long time. At first, the couple assumed they simply needed to go to waste.

However, Ingrid commented: "But my husband took one and said, 'Hey, these are full of wine and the label says 1969.' We cleaned them carefully and took a look, some were definitely bad, and some looked good.”

She continued: “The tags were very degraded, so we did some research on the internet and found the tag in an archive of library“. “It looks like they were from South Australia and from a well known winery,” she added. "We don't yet know if they have any value, but we hope to find out more."

According to the labels, they indicate that there was wine that came from the South Australian Modbury Estate, located in the current Wynn Vale in Adelaide, South Australia.

But while the couple weren't sure of the item's value, bottles that are over 50 years old tend to attract a high price tag.

Even some great wines can be stored for over 100 years, but according to experts, most wines reach their peak before age 50.

Furthermore, the way the bottles are stored also determines whether the wine will be good after a long time. Ideal conditions are dark, around 55 degrees Fahrenheit and around 70% humidity.
